Manchester United Captain Rejects £100M Saudi Arabia Move

In the summer of 2025, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was the subject of a lucrative £100 million transfer offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. However, the 31-year-old midfielder has now firmly reiterated his commitment to the Red Devils, dismissing speculation that he turned down the move to boost his chances of featuring at the 2026 World Cup in the United States.

Fernandes, who joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, has been a key player for the club despite their struggles in recent years. Under the management of Ruben Amorim, United have endured a disappointing start to the current campaign, winning less than half of their opening seven Premier League games and crashing out of the Carabao Cup.

Despite the team's faltering form, Fernandes has remained loyal to the club, refusing opportunities to move elsewhere. The Portuguese international was adamant that his decision to stay at Old Trafford had nothing to do with the upcoming World Cup, stating, "I didn't close the door on moving to Saudi Arabia because of the World Cup. That was never in my mind."

Fernandes emphasized that he wanted to stay at Manchester United and the club also wanted him to remain. With two years left on his contract, the midfielder's future at the club beyond this season remains uncertain, but for now, he is focused on representing Portugal in their upcoming World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland.
