Manchester City Joins Race for Brighton's Midfield Talent Carlos Baleba
8 Aug
Summary
- Manchester City interested in signing Brighton's Carlos Baleba
- Manchester United yet to make significant move for the 21-year-old
- Brighton under no pressure to sell Baleba, who is happy to stay

As of August 8th, 2025, Manchester City have emerged as a potential suitor for Brighton's highly-rated midfielder Carlos Baleba. According to reports, Pep Guardiola has been an admirer of the 21-year-old Cameroon international for some time.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have also been linked with Baleba, but the club has yet to take any significant steps towards securing his signature. The Red Devils may find it challenging to sign the player, as they are currently focused on finalizing a deal for RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, which is expected to cost around €85 million.
Brighton, on the other hand, are under no pressure to sell Baleba, whose contract at the Amex Stadium runs until the summer of 2028. The report also claims that the player is more than happy to remain with the Seagulls for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.
Baleba joined Brighton in the summer of 2023 from Lille for a reported fee of €27 million. Since then, he has made 77 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
If a move were to materialize, Baleba would likely prefer a switch to Manchester City over Manchester United, as the former would be able to offer him the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League.
