27 Apr
Summary
- Manchester City's title lead narrows after a surprising defeat.
- Arsenal can now potentially win the Women's Super League.
- Manchester United's top-three aspirations are in jeopardy.
Manchester City's Women's Super League title aspirations suffered a significant blow following a dramatic 3-2 loss to Brighton. This unexpected defeat has reignited the title race, as both Chelsea and Arsenal now have the mathematical capability to match City's points tally.
While Chelsea's goal difference makes them unlikely contenders, Arsenal's prospects have improved considerably. Manchester City's loss means they may have to wait until the final day to secure the championship, provided Arsenal wins their games in hand.
The defeat marks the first time this season City has dropped points from a winning position. Despite creating seven big chances, they failed to convert, showing signs of rust after a 19-day break.
In contrast, Manchester United's form has also declined significantly. A goalless draw with Tottenham has jeopardized their goal of finishing second, and they now face challenges maintaining a top-three position. United's recent results, with only one win in their last eight matches across all competitions, highlight a concerning dip in performance.
