The Yonex-Sunrise Maharashtra U-19 State Badminton Selection tournament, hosted by Willingdon SC, continued with exciting matches on its second day. In the U-19 boys' singles, unseeded Gowtham K Hari from Mumbai Suburban showcased resilience by overcoming Atharva Goswami of Pune with a score of 10-15, 15-9, 15-8 to reach the Round of 32.
Top seed Arjun Alugvelli, also representing Mumbai Suburban, demonstrated his prowess by defeating Akola's Adarsh Panjwani 15-7, 15-9. Similarly, fourth seed Pranay Gadewar from Nagpur secured a comfortable victory against Mukesh Yadav of Raigad, winning 15-9, 15-5. Other seeded players in the boys' category, including Avadhut Kadam and Yash Gaurav Sinha, also advanced without significant challenge.
The U-19 girls' singles followed a similar pattern, with seeded players advancing smoothly. Third seed Prakriti Sharma of Raigad and fifth seed Navya Ranka of Pune recorded straight-game wins over their opponents, Meemansha Shresh and Ananya Rane respectively. These victories ensure their progression into the next stage of the tournament, maintaining the expected order in the girls' draw.
