Kelsey Macdonald from Scotland fired a record-breaking round of 64 to lead the Australian WPGA Championship after the opening day. The 35-year-old golfer, who has been playing in Australia for three months, carded seven-under-par.
Macdonald overcame an early bogey on the first hole to secure her lead, finishing with six birdies and an eagle on the 18th. This impressive finish on the back nine, completed in just 29 strokes, put her one shot ahead of the chasing pack.
Joint second are home favourite Hannah Green and England's rookie professional Charlotte Heath. Several other players are closely following, including Meghan MacLaren, who was runner-up in a previous tournament.
Heath, playing in Florida conditions she finds comfortable, also impressed with seven birdies. Macdonald expressed delight at her finish, noting the benefit of training in Australia's warmer climate compared to Scotland's winter.
