Former Chelsea and Everton winger Pat Nevin has applauded Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister for his candid remarks about his contract. Mac Allister recently told the media he was "very sad" not to have been offered a new deal, a sentiment Nevin found commendable.
Nevin suggested that Mac Allister's honest response, especially seeing teammates like Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch sign extensions, was refreshing. He believes the Argentine's statement that he loves the club and wishes to play for Liverpool resonated positively with fans. Nevin praised Mac Allister for handling the situation maturely without apparent pressure for a significant pay rise.
He added that players sometimes intentionally run down their contracts to secure lucrative moves elsewhere, but Mac Allister's approach did not suggest this. Nevin concluded that Liverpool is aware of the situation and must manage it, while acknowledging Mac Allister's self-conduct in the matter has been excellent.
