- Coach Kiffin praised Blake Baker's defensive transformation for LSU.
- LSU's defense ranked 12th nationally in SP+ for 2025.
- Baker's retention was crucial for player continuity and team success.
LSU head coach Lane Kiffin expressed his satisfaction with the retention of defensive coordinator Blake Baker. Baker, a holdover from the previous coaching staff, has been instrumental in the defensive unit's resurgence.
Kiffin recalled observing LSU's defensive improvements under Baker's tenure. He noted that the Tigers' defense concluded the 2025 season ranked 12th in SP+, a remarkable achievement given the team's struggles two years prior. Baker arrived in 2024 and immediately delivered positive results.
The LSU defense benefited from an influx of talent, including the nation's top-ranked transfer portal class. However, the continuity provided by retaining Baker and his staff was also key to keeping important players on the roster. Baker's commitment was further solidified as he signed an extension with LSU, turning down a head coaching opportunity at Tulane.
