The Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) board is carefully examining LIV Golf's application for inclusion. This review follows LIV Golf's recent announcement of a shift to a 72-hole format, a move that potentially addresses previous criteria hurdles. OWGR chief Trevor Immelman confirmed the board's deep involvement and close collaboration with LIV.
Immelman noted that LIV Golf communicated its format change to a 72-hole structure in advance. He expressed optimism about the constructive dialogue between the two entities, highlighting a spirit of mutual understanding, though emphasizing that a final decision on LIV's ranking status is pending.
LIV Golf's quest for OWGR points has been ongoing for years, with previous applications denied due to unmet criteria. The format change and the introduction of a promotion event are key developments in their continued efforts to meet the necessary requirements for ranking consideration.
