Lions Shift to Evening Practice to Mimic Primetime Games
4 Aug
Summary
- Lions hold evening practice to prepare for primetime games
- Seventh-round pick Dan Jackson placed on injured reserve
- Cornerback Ennis Rakestraw evaluated for shoulder injury

As the Detroit Lions' training camp continues, the team is making some adjustments to their practice schedule. On Monday, the Lions will take the field in the evening, a departure from their usual morning practices.
According to head coach Dan Campbell, this evening practice is a yearly tradition that helps break up the monotony of camp and prepares the players for the unpredictable game times they've experienced over the past few years. With the Lions playing a significant number of primetime games, this change in routine is intended to get the team accustomed to the ebbs and flows of competing later in the day.
The Lions' camp has not been without its challenges, however. On Sunday, the team placed seventh-round pick Dan Jackson on the reserve/injured list after he was evaluated for a leg injury. This comes on the heels of the Lions already losing Levi Onwuzurike for the season due to an ACL injury.

Additionally, the Lions made a couple of other roster moves, waiving running back Kye Robichaux with an injury designation and signing cornerback D.J. Miller to help bolster their secondary depth. This comes as the team is dealing with injuries to Terrion Arnold (hamstring) and Ennis Rakestraw, who is being evaluated for a shoulder issue.
As the Lions prepare for their preseason showdown with the Atlanta Falcons on Friday, the evening practice on Monday will provide a valuable opportunity for the team to adjust to the unique challenges of playing under the lights.
