Lions Trade Montgomery, Gain Versatile Lineman Scruggs

The Detroit Lions have acquired offensive lineman Juice Scruggs from Houston in exchange for running back David Montgomery. This trade also netted the Lions a 2026 fourth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick. Scruggs, who entered the league in 2023 as a second-round selection, has played in 37 career games, starting once last season. He has experience at all three interior offensive line positions: left guard, center, and right guard.

Scruggs is entering the final season of his rookie contract and will compete for a spot on the Lions' interior offensive line. His versatility could see him push for playing time at guard or center. Despite some discipline concerns, the Lions view Scruggs as a player who can add valuable competition to the roster, potentially earning a second contract with strong performance this season. The team's acquisition of Scruggs does not preclude them from drafting additional offensive linemen.
