Vonn's Painful Road: Home, But Facing New Challenges

Lindsey Vonn is back home following a challenging recovery period after a severe crash during the women's downhill event at the Milan Cortina Olympics. The accident, which occurred 13 seconds into her run on February 8th, resulted in a complex left tibia fracture. Vonn underwent a total of five surgeries, including an emergency fasciotomy to treat compartment syndrome, a condition that, if untreated, could have led to amputation.

Her hospitalization spanned nearly two weeks in Italy, followed by a fifth surgery and initial recovery in the United States before her return home on Sunday. Vonn expressed her commitment to therapy and healing, acknowledging that the path ahead will be arduous and painful. Adding to her emotional distress, Vonn also recently lost her dog, Leo, who had battled cancer. The skier noted the profound difficulty of returning home without Leo's usual greeting, facing a multitude of hard realities as she moves forward.
