Sabrina Ionescu has taken personal responsibility for the New York Liberty's critical 0-2 series deficit in the WNBA semifinals against the Atlanta Dream. Following a bewildering overtime loss on Wednesday, Ionescu told her team, "This loss is on me." The Liberty now faces elimination, with no WNBA team having previously overcome an 0-2 disadvantage in a best-of-five playoff series.
This critical juncture comes after a tumultuous season for Ionescu, marked by a foot injury and ongoing back issues. Despite moments of brilliance, her performance has seen inconsistency, culminating in struggles during Game 2. A costly turnover in the final moments of overtime has weighed heavily on her.
The Liberty is now in a must-win situation for Game 3, scheduled for Friday. Atlanta's aggressive defense has disrupted New York's offense throughout the series. Ionescu emphasizes the need for decisive play and resilience, drawing on her career history of overcoming challenges to inspire a potential comeback.
