Lens has transformed from a surprise contender into a legitimate title challenger in Ligue 1. Under coach Pierre Sage, the team, despite modest resources, is currently one point ahead of defending champions Paris Saint-Germain. Lens is poised to extend its club-record winning streak to 10 games across all competitions when hosting Auxerre.
The team's success is built on excellent teamwork and a formidable defense, evidenced by five clean sheets in their last nine matches. PSG faces a difficult home game against Lille, compounded by a recent French Cup exit. Marseille and Monaco also face crucial matches, with Monaco struggling mid-table and dealing with numerous injuries, including their star signing Paul Pogba.
Injuries are a significant theme across the league, with Monaco's squad heavily impacted. Additionally, Nice players Jérémie Boga and Terem Moffi are reportedly seeking contract terminations after an on-field confrontation with their own supporters following a recent defeat. These incidents cast a shadow over the league as the title race intensifies.
