The Arizona Diamondbacks have welcomed Lars Nootbaar, their only acquisition at the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline, who debuted on Tuesday against the San Diego Padres. Nootbaar is in the lineup hitting sixth and serving as the designated hitter, joining the team for a critical four-game series against their NL West rivals.
Much to the disappointment of many fans, the Diamondbacks did not acquire any pitching at the deadline. Nootbaar, who missed the start of the season with a foot injury, brings a career .742 OPS and a strong walk rate to the team. He is expected to share designated hitter duties against right-handed pitchers with Max Kepler.
In other roster news, starting catcher Gabriel Moreno was placed on the Paternity List following the birth of his second child. Veteran backup James McCann will catch for the second consecutive game.
