Formula 1's new world champion, Lando Norris, has been celebrated in his home county of Somerset. A pedestrianised street, Lando Lane, has been named in his honour at the Clark's Village shopping outlet in Street, near his hometown of Glastonbury. The naming ceremony took place recently and was attended by significant figures from Norris's past.
Among the attendees were Norris's former go-karting instructor, Rob Dodds, who recalled his early promise, and Dan Close, deputy head teacher at Millfield school. Mr. Close shared that the school even has a Year 3 report noting Norris's potential to become a world champion.
The honour holds deep significance for Somerset, where Norris grew up. The Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Mohammed Sadiq, called the road naming an inspiration for young people. He noted that Somerset also produced another F1 world champion, Jensen Button.
