LaLiga is preparing for a distinctive retro fiesta scheduled for next month, where a majority of teams in Spain's top flight will debut specially created throwback kits.
Fans can anticipate seeing these nostalgic jerseys in action during the matchdays from April 10-13. This week, 17 of the 20 participating LaLiga teams showcased their retro-inspired shirts at an event during Madrid Fashion Week. The designs offer fresh interpretations influenced by the historical styles and trends of Spanish football.
Clubs like Alaves, Athletic Bilbao, and Atletico Madrid are among those embracing the retro theme with unique designs. Alaves' kit nods to their 2000-01 UEFA Cup final shirt, while Athletic Bilbao draws inspiration from the early 1970s. Atletico Madrid revisits their 2022 120th-anniversary kit in original club colors.
Other teams also feature distinct designs: Celta Vigo's "A Reconquista" jersey honors a 1809 uprising, Elche resurrects a 1991-92 kit, and Espanyol presents a vibrant yellow design saluting the early 1990s. Conversely, some clubs like Real Madrid, Getafe, and Rayo Vallecano will not be participating in the retro kit initiative.
Levante's retro kit offers a nod to the club's early days with a cream and black sash design. Mallorca's effort captures early 2000s "Total 90" vibes, while Osasuna's plain red jersey is an ode to their late 1970s/early 80s team. Betis showcases a design incorporating elements from four decades, and Oviedo mimics their 2017 anniversary kit.
Sociedad's design pays homage to the kits from their final seasons at the historic Atotxa stadium, featuring a 1991-93 aesthetic. Sevilla returns to their original white and red colors with a 20th-century club crest. Valencia's modern variant is inspired by their 1990-92 bright orange third kit, and Villarreal's muted yellow jersey evokes their early 2000s European competition era.
