The Bowman Gray Stadium will host the inaugural Kyle Busch Invitational on Friday, Aug. 21, featuring a field of 51 Legend Cars and 18 Bandoleros. The specific car counts, 51 and 18, directly reference iconic numbers from Kyle Busch's celebrated racing career. Donation tiers, including $4, $8, $18, and $51, further honor his journey through different racing series.
This unique event is dedicated to supporting The Samantha and Kyle Busch Bundle of Joy Fund, which aids individuals and couples struggling with infertility by providing grants for treatments like IVF. This fund stems from the Busches' personal experiences and has facilitated over 150 grants totaling more than $2 million, contributing to over 100 births.
The race format is designed to accommodate the large number of entries on the quarter-mile track, with multiple heat races and B-Mains leading into the main features. Entry is merit-based, with drivers earning automatic bids through specific qualifications in the Charlotte Summer Shootout series, ensuring a competitive field.
Legend Cars are 5/8-scale tributes with sealed Yamaha FZ09 engines, emphasizing driver skill over engine modification. Bandoleros are a step below, designed for younger or less experienced drivers with simpler mechanics. Both car types are manufactured in Harrisburg, North Carolina, and possess unique aspects like VINs for Legend Cars, enhancing their road-vehicle-like traceability. The sealed engine rule in Legend Cars helps control costs for owners.
Tickets for the event are priced at $10 for general admission, with reduced prices for children, and a two-day pass is available. The race will be streamed on FloSports and the NASCAR Channel. Bowman Gray Stadium, a historic track running since 1937, previously hosted Cup Series races between 1958 and 1971.
