His memorial service was held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, followed by a tribute at the new University of Kansas Conference Center. Attendees included celebrated former Jayhawks such as Danny Manning, Kirk Hinrich, and Nick Collison, underscoring Ward's profound impact.
Ward's role extended beyond academics; he was deeply involved in student-athlete development and leadership. Coach Bill Self remembered him as "one of Kansas' all-time great Jayhawks," highlighting his dedication to ensuring student-athletes earned their degrees.
"The KU community lost a major part of its heart and soul today," stated KU Athletics Director Travis Goff upon Ward's passing, reflecting the widespread grief and admiration for his contributions.
