KSW Fights Back: Point Deductions for Missed Weight

Beginning December 20th, the Poland-based mixed martial arts promotion KSW will implement a new rule designed to curb missed weigh-ins. Fighters who fail to meet their contracted weight will now face a point deduction in the opening round of their scheduled bout. This penalty supplements existing financial fines, aiming for a more stringent approach to weigh-in compliance.

The new policy will affect all athletes, with deductions applied if they exceed the weight limit during the official weigh-in period. This move by KSW echoes a similar initiative by Brazilian promotion Jungle Fight, which introduced point deductions for weight discrepancies back in 2013. Jungle Fight's system involved escalating point losses based on how much an athlete exceeded the contracted weight.

This stringent measure is intended to increase fighter accountability and ensure a more equitable competitive environment. The promotion believes that introducing point deductions will encourage athletes to take weight management more seriously, potentially preventing situations where a fighter who adhered to weight limits competes at a disadvantage. The KSW 113 card is set to be the first event under this revised rule set.
