Keyshawn Johnson Blames Jets for Sam Darnold's Struggles

Keyshawn Johnson, a franchise hero, asserted that the New York Jets failed Sam Darnold by not providing adequate support. Johnson believes the Jets should have focused on building a team around Darnold rather than drafting Zach Wilson. Darnold experienced significant challenges during his three seasons with the Jets, marked by frequent offensive line injuries and a lack of receiving talent.

During his time in New York, Darnold threw for over 2,000 yards annually but struggled as a starter with a 13-25 record. He endured injuries, including mononucleosis and a shoulder issue, which impacted his performance. An AFC scout commented that New York was not a conducive environment for a quarterback's development.

After leaving the Jets, Darnold struggled with the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers. However, he later found success in Minnesota's offensive system under Kevin O'Connell, where his passing yards doubled. In Seattle, he again surpassed 4,000 yards and benefited from a strong running game and improved offensive protection, leading to a more efficient performance.
