Kerala launched their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season with an emphatic 10-wicket triumph against Odisha. The team's batting lineup proved unstoppable, effortlessly chasing down a target of 177 runs with 21 balls to spare, without losing a single wicket. Rohan Kunnummal was the architect of this dominant victory, scoring a spectacular unbeaten 121 off just 60 balls, hitting ten fours and ten sixes. He was complemented by captain Sanju Samson, who remained not out on 51, guiding Kerala to a flawless chase.
Odisha had posted a respectable 176 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs, with captain Samantray leading the charge with 53 runs, supported by 40 from Sambit S Baral and 29 from Gaurav Choudhary. However, Kerala's bowlers, particularly Nidheesh, put in a strong performance. Nidheesh was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 wickets for 35 runs, which was crucial in curbing Odisha's scoring potential.
The chase by Kerala was remarkably efficient, showcasing exceptional batting prowess. Kunnummal's aggressive innings, which saw him score at a strike rate exceeding 200, was the highlight. Samson's steady presence at the other end ensured a seamless run chase. The opening partnership comfortably steered Kerala to their victory, demonstrating a clinical performance that overwhelmed the opposition's bowling attack.
