- New guards Diallo and Wilkins, plus center Moreno, key for the team.

Mark Pope is enthusiastic about his third Kentucky Wildcats basketball team, emphasizing their rapid learning capabilities. This year's roster features a strong backcourt with transfer guards Zoom Diallo and Alex Wilkins, complemented by center Malachi Moreno. Pope believes this team's 'processing speed' will be crucial for success.
The Wildcats' formula for this season appears to echo Pope's first Kentucky team, focusing on savvy guards and a mobile big man. Preseason exhibitions will offer the first look at the team's dynamics, beginning Friday against Little Rock at Rupp Arena, followed by matchups with Texas Tech and UCF.
Key areas to watch include player rotations amidst ongoing injury recoveries for Kam Williams, Trent Noah, and Jerone Morton. Four starting spots seem set, with the power forward position being a point of competition. The team's defensive potential is also a focus, with Pope aiming for elite-level performance through strong on-ball rotations.
The new backcourt, featuring Diallo and Wilkins, is expected to lead the offense with their playmaking skills. While Wilkins showed brilliant creativity at Furman, his turnover rate will be a point of adjustment. The article also highlights Milan Momcilovic as a potential game-changer, noted for his exceptional shooting ability and versatility, which should open up opportunities for teammates.
