Teonni Key led Kentucky with 19 points, while Clara Strack recorded her 16th double-double of the season with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Despite building a significant lead in the third quarter, Kentucky nearly surrendered their advantage as West Virginia mounted a furious comeback.
West Virginia, the No. 4 seed, was attempting to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1992. Sydney Shaw scored 11 of her 23 points in the final quarter, and Jordan Harrison's free throws narrowed the gap to 72-71 with just over a minute remaining. However, the Mountaineers could not retake the lead, and Kentucky held on for the narrow win.
