The fight, featuring Ireland's most decorated boxer against Flora Pili, sold out within 30 minutes of tickets going on sale on June 12. Many fans were left facing astronomical prices on the black market, with some tickets listed for over €3,200.
To address this, Wicklow County Council is considering proposals to stream the event on Bray seafront. However, securing permissions for non-free-to-air events and coordinating with local authorities pose challenges.
The Event Industry Association of Ireland (EIAI) has called on the government to implement a national framework for public events. This framework would simplify the process for local authorities to organize screenings of major national importance, allowing more people to participate in significant sporting occasions.
