DeBoer Matches Saban's Start at Alabama
4 Oct
Summary
- Kalen DeBoer's record is identical to Nick Saban's first 33 games.
- Fans debate if DeBoer inherited a superior situation.
- DeBoer's current team is 5-0, their best start under him.
Kalen DeBoer has achieved a 25-8 record through his first 33 games as head coach at Alabama, an identical benchmark to Nick Saban's performance over the same span. This statistical parallel has ignited discussions among fans, with many pointing out the differing circumstances of their tenures.
Some argue that DeBoer inherited a more robust program from his predecessor, unlike Saban, who took over a team with a less favorable recent history. These critics suggest DeBoer inherited a 'Ferrari' while Saban began with a 'Pinto.'
Despite these comparisons, DeBoer's current team has achieved its first 5-0 start of his tenure in 2026, marking a strong performance. This season's success includes a significant 56-23 victory over No. 16 Mississippi State, their most dominant win to date this fall.
