28 Apr
Summary
- Justin Poirier committed to Penn State after a standout freshman year.
- He was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2024 NHL Draft.
- Poirier brings significant goal-scoring to a depleted Nittany Lions lineup.
Penn State's hockey program has secured a major commitment with the addition of Justin Poirier, a forward from Maine. Poirier joins the Nittany Lions after a highly productive freshman season in 2025-26, where he recorded 18 goals and 11 assists in 27 games.
His impressive performance in the OHL, including a 51-goal campaign in 2023-24, led to his selection by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round of the 2024 NHL Draft. Poirier was widely regarded as the top uncommitted forward in the transfer portal.
The Nittany Lions are looking to rebuild their top offensive lines after losing significant production. Poirier's proven ability to score, evidenced by his national ranking among freshmen last season, should help fill that void for Penn State.
