The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium complex in Chennai recently hosted the thrilling conclusion of the Jr. NBA 3v3 National Under-14 tournament. This significant school competition saw top teams from the U-14 boys' and girls' categories advance to the National Finals. The Velammal International School and Velammal Vidyalaya were among the winners, alongside Crescent Matriculation Higher Secondary School and St. Thomas Matriculation Higher Secondary School.
Bharath Anantharaman, Head of Basketball Operations for NBA India, expressed his vision to establish the Jr. NBA program as a crucial pipeline for basketball talent across India. He emphasized the importance of focusing on the U-14 age group for early talent identification and development. The program ensures that the Basketball Federation of India's Talent Research Wing is well-informed about promising young players.
