Allen Tops Mahomes: QB Rankings Shift for 2026

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has been recognized as the league's top player heading into the 2026 season, according to a recent survey of NFL executives, coaches, and scouts. Allen narrowly edged out Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes, who held the top spot in previous considerations.

Analysts noted that while Mahomes has experienced a recent dip in performance, Allen's exceptional dual-threat capabilities, combining elite passing and unique running abilities, make him exceptionally difficult to defend. His skill in elevating his teammates was also highlighted as a significant factor in his rise to number one.

Mahomes, despite receiving more individual first-place votes in the survey, was ultimately placed second due to Allen securing more top-three votes. This ranking reflects a shift in perception of the league's best signal-callers. Following the top two, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford secured the third position. The top five is completed by Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, who both had standout seasons in 2024.
