Summary
- José Ramírez is experiencing a statistical slump in the 2026 season.
- Team president cites bad luck and positive underlying metrics for struggles.
- Rookie standouts DeLauter and Bazzana are providing offensive support.

Future Hall of Fame third baseman José Ramírez is currently navigating a significant slump during the 2026 campaign. Through 61 games, his performance has fallen below expectations, with a .228 batting average and five defensive errors.
Cleveland Guardians President of Baseball Operations Chris Antonetti expressed confidence on Sunday, May 31, that Ramírez's struggles are temporary. Antonetti cited "bad luck" and "positive indicators" in Ramírez's performance, noting that many hard-hit balls are being caught by fielders.
He anticipates a return to form, stating, "if he keeps on the path he's on, I think we'll look up at the end of the year and it'll be a typical Jose year for him."
Adding to the team's positive outlook, rookies Chase DeLauter and Travis Bazzana have made significant contributions. Their strong performances have helped cushion the impact of Ramírez's slumps and bolstered the Guardians' offensive success.
Following Antonetti's comments, Ramírez showed progress in the series finale against the Boston Red Sox, hitting an RBI double. Manager Stephen Vogt acknowledged the hit, noting it was nice to see one of Ramírez's hard-hit balls fall for him.
The Guardians, currently seven games above .500 and leading the American League Central, face challenging upcoming series against the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers, starting Tuesday, June 2.
