Ex-Longhorn Pope Joins Rival Texas A&M
18 Aug
Summary
- Jordan Pope, former Texas player, will play for Texas A&M.
- Fifth-year eligibility granted via court injunction for Pope.
- NCAA implements age-based eligibility model starting this summer.

Jordan Pope, formerly of the Texas Longhorns basketball team, is set to play for rival Texas A&M. He secured a fifth season of collegiate eligibility following a court injunction in his home state of California. Pope, who played two seasons for Texas after transferring from Oregon State, averaged 13.1 points per game last season.
His eligibility extension aligns with the NCAA's new age-based model, which begins this summer and grants athletes five years regardless of playing time. While Pope and classmate Chendall Weaver were not initially grandfathered into this model, a wave of lawsuits has effectively granted an additional year to all 2022 recruits.
Texas coach Sean Miller noted roster limitations prevented him from keeping Pope and Weaver. The Longhorns' roster is now full with 15 players, including recent addition Marcus Spears Jr. Texas A&M, which has 16 players listed, will need to make roster adjustments following Pope's commitment. The Aggies will visit Texas on February 16 and host them again on March 6.
