Johnny Slawinski, the Angels' No. 3 prospect, earned Arizona Complex League Pitcher of the Month for May. He recorded an impressive 31 strikeouts without issuing a single walk over 22 innings. This perfect streak ended Saturday on his career's first walk, but he still managed eight strikeouts in five innings. Slawinski's performance places him among the top Minor League pitchers in strikeout-to-walk percentage.
His ability to rack up strikeouts with minimal walks was evident in high school, where he had 177 punchouts to 14 walks. Slawinski's fastball consistently sits in the 92-94 mph range, and he commands a slider, curveball, and changeup. He also demonstrates effectiveness with ground balls, with batters hitting into the dirt at a high rate against him.
Other Angels prospects are also showing promise. Caden Dana, a former Top 100 prospect, is gaining experience at Triple-A. Trey Gregory-Alford and Dylan Jordan, both highly-rated prospects, are leading the rotation at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga with strong ERAs and strikeout numbers.
