Joe Allen Departs Swansea Coaching Staff
30 Apr
Summary
- Joe Allen is leaving his coaching role at Swansea City.
- His departure follows the final game of the season against Charlton.
- Allen returned to support head coach Vitor Matos in November 2025.

Joe Allen will be departing from his role within Swansea City's coaching staff. This change will occur immediately after the club's final game of the current season, which is scheduled against Charlton Athletic.
Allen had previously retired as a player for Swansea in May of the previous year. However, he later returned to the club, joining fellow legend Leon Britton. Their return was in support of the newly appointed head coach, Vitor Matos, in November 2025.
The 36-year-old Welsh football icon's tenure in the backroom team was always expected to be short-term. His departure signifies the conclusion of this interim period.
Allen and Britton were initially brought on board following Vitor Matos's appointment. This was necessitated by work permit issues that prevented Matos from bringing his own staff from his former club, Maritimo.
Despite the subsequent arrival of a full coaching contingent in December, including Portuguese trio Diogo Medeiros, Toze Mendes, and Goncalo Ricca, alongside Ryan Maye from Aston Villa, Allen and Britton remained in their support roles.
