Schwartz Exits Browns After Coaching Search

Jim Schwartz has resigned from his position as the Cleveland Browns' defensive coordinator, concluding his two-year tenure with the team. His departure followed the organization's decision to appoint Todd Monken as the new head coach.

Schwartz stated that he understood the team's choice to pursue an offensive-minded coach like Monken. However, he made it clear that remaining in his role was not a viable option for him.

He explained that after being overlooked for the head coaching position, he believed it was time to move on. Schwartz cited concerns about maintaining his authority within the organization, likening the situation to a 'forced marriage' that wouldn't work.

Due to contract terms, Schwartz will be away from the sidelines for the upcoming season. The Browns have since appointed Mike Rutenberg to lead their defense.
