In a shocking incident, New York Jets player Kris Boyd was shot in an assault that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 16, 2025, in Midtown Manhattan. According to the NYPD, the 29-year-old cornerback and special teams player was struck by gunfire around 2:06 AM in front of 156 West 38th Street.
The police have released two photos of the suspect, described as a Black male with a medium complexion, who was last seen wearing a black beanie, sweatshirt, and pants, as well as multi-colored sneakers and carrying a black backpack. The suspect fled the scene on foot, heading eastbound on West 38th Street.
Boyd was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently in critical but stable condition. A friend of the NFL veteran stated that he is "doing real good" and making progress in his recovery.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed his concern and prayers for Boyd and his loved ones, while also emphasizing the need to continue working to end the epidemic of gun violence in the city. Adams noted that shootings have reached historic lows, but more work is needed to protect young lives.
The Jets organization has acknowledged the situation but declined to comment further at this time. Boyd's teammates, Harrison Phillips and Jermaine Johnson, have taken to social media to ask for prayers and support for their injured colleague.
