Jets Claim Undrafted DB Mario Goodrich, Aim to Boost Secondary Depth
6 Aug
Summary
- Jets claim former Eagles and Broncos DB Mario Goodrich off waivers
- Goodrich, an undrafted free agent in 2022, has bounced around practice squads
- Jets waive/injured S Jaylin Simpson, who suffered a hamstring injury

As the New York Jets continue their offseason roster overhaul, the team has made another move to bolster their secondary. On August 6th, 2025, the Jets claimed defensive back Mario Goodrich off waivers from the Denver Broncos.
Goodrich, an undrafted free agent in 2022, has bounced around the league since going undrafted. He spent time on the practice squads of the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants last year before joining the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League. Most recently, he had a brief stint with the Broncos this summer before being placed on waivers.
The Jets' decision to claim Goodrich comes as they look to add depth to their defensive backfield. The team also waived/injured safety Jaylin Simpson, who suffered a hamstring injury during the team's Green & White practice on August 5th.
With the preseason just around the corner, the Jets are continuing to scour the free agent market for players who can contribute. While Goodrich may not be a household name, he'll have a chance to compete for a roster spot and provide valuable depth in the secondary.
