Predators Veteran Leaves After 25 Years for Sharks Role

Jeff Kealty has departed the Nashville Predators after a quarter-century tenure, accepting a position as Assistant General Manager with the San Jose Sharks.

This significant career change follows Kealty's 25 years with the Predators, a period he described as "half his life." He acknowledged the decision was personally difficult but felt the timing was right for a career evolution.

Kealty's journey with the Predators began in 2001 as an amateur scout. He progressed through various leadership roles, including Director of Amateur Scouting and Director of Scouting, and most recently served as Assistant General Manager. He also notably led Team USA to victory in the 2025 World Championship, their first gold since 1933.

Sharks General Manager Mike Grier initiated contact, and Kealty found the San Jose opportunity "too good an opportunity to pass on." He clarified that his departure was not due to any animosity or dissatisfaction with Nashville's new General Manager, Chris MacFarland, whom he considers a "fantastic hire."

Kealty expressed confidence in MacFarland's leadership and indicated that he was not pushed out, still having a potential role within Nashville's revised front office. He believes both the Sharks and Predators have been on similar trajectories over the past decade, referencing their Stanley Cup Final appearances in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
