Los Angeles Lakers center Jaxson Hayes has received a one-game suspension for his actions against the Washington Wizards' mascot, G-Wiz. The incident occurred during pregame introductions before Friday's road game. Video showed Hayes making contact with the mascot, appearing to knock him off balance.
Hayes will miss the upcoming Thursday game against the Philadelphia 76ers, which marks the start of an eight-game homestand for the Lakers. This is not the first time Hayes has faced disciplinary scrutiny. In July 2021, he was involved in a domestic dispute that led to a physical altercation with a police officer.
Following the 2021 incident, Hayes was charged with 12 misdemeanors and ultimately sentenced to three years of probation, community service, and domestic violence classes. The NBA did not take disciplinary action against him at that time. Hayes is also scheduled to participate in the upcoming All-Star weekend Dunk Contest.
