21 Oct
Summary
- Eagles QB Jalen Hurts diagnosed with DVT and pulmonary emboli.
- Recovery expected to take three months, but long-term health is good.
- Hurts' season ended, but he will continue conditioning with the team.
Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts is facing a serious health challenge that has concluded his season. He has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and bilateral pulmonary emboli, commonly known as blood clots in the lungs.
NFL insiders report that his recovery timeline is expected to span approximately three months. Despite this, a joint statement from the Eagles and his agent emphasized his clinical stability and a very good prognosis for a full recovery.
The diagnosis means a clot from his leg traveled to his lungs. Treatment will involve anticoagulants, and he is prohibited from contact activities while on medication. He is expected to return to play once treatment is complete.
Hurts initially reported calf issues on October 8th after being cleated in a game. Specialists in London diagnosed him with superficial vein thrombosis in his left calf on October 10th, but he was cleared to play that day. The clot later moved, leading to his placement on injured reserve on October 17th.
Head coach Nick Sirianni stated he relies on the team's medical experts for player health decisions and expressed full trust in their judgment regarding Hurts' situation.
