Izzo Urges Rutgers Freshmen to Stay Put

Rutgers' freshman class has emerged as a surprising positive this season, injecting vital energy and tenacity into the team. Despite the team's overall struggles, these younger players have demonstrated a relentless spirit that is crucial for the locker room atmosphere.

Michigan State's head coach, Tom Izzo, recently lauded Rutgers' freshman talent after their overtime game on Tuesday. He specifically advised guards Harun Zrno, Lino Mark, and Kaden Powers, along with forward Chris Nwuli, to remain with Rutgers and continue developing under coach Steve Pikiell, whom Izzo described as an excellent coach.

Izzo drew a comparison between Rutgers' freshmen and key young players on his own Michigan State roster, suggesting that retaining this group could form the foundation of a strong future team. He publicly encouraged the Rutgers freshmen to "stay put," commending their performance even in a loss and praising the passionate home crowd.

Furthermore, Izzo expressed admiration for Pikiell's strategic coaching, particularly his decision to employ a smaller lineup. This tactical approach was deemed "brilliant" by Izzo, indicating his respect for Pikiell's game planning and ability to adapt his team's strategy effectively.

The Scarlet Knights are scheduled to face Michigan State again on March 5th in East Lansing. Prior to that, Rutgers will play USC in Los Angeles this Saturday.
