Ivory Coast achieved a significant 1-0 victory against Ecuador in their long-awaited return to the World Cup stage. The decisive moment came in the 90th minute when substitute Amad Diallo found the back of the net with a precise left-footed shot.
This victory marks Ivory Coast's first World Cup appearance since 2014 and moves them closer to potentially reaching the knockout rounds for the first time. The goal ended Ecuador's formidable 19-game unbeaten streak, which had seen them undefeated since September 6, 2024.
The match saw considerable tension, with both teams hitting the crossbar three times before Diallo's late breakthrough. Wilfried Singo's strong run down the right flank created the opportunity for the winning goal.
Ecuador, participating in their fifth World Cup, faced a crowd heavily favoring them at Lincoln Financial Field. Despite the passionate home support, their quest to reach the knockout stage for the second time was hindered by this narrow defeat.
