IU Football Schedules Future Nonconference Games Through 2030
19 Aug
Summary
- IU schedules games against Howard, Miami (Ohio), Indiana State
- Hoosiers avoid Power Four opponents until 2030 Notre Dame game
- Athletic director aims for competitive Big Ten finishes

According to multiple sources, the Indiana University football team has scheduled several future nonconference games over the next decade. The Hoosiers will host Howard on September 12, 2026, and Miami (Ohio) on September 16, 2028. They have also added a matchup against Indiana State on September 6, 2030.
These scheduling moves give Indiana a full nonconference slate through the 2030 season. The athletic director, Scott Dolson, started reshaping the program's nonconference schedule in 2023 when the team opted out of multiple games against Louisville. The Miami (Ohio) game will replace part of a recently canceled home-and-home series against Virginia.
The Hoosiers will not play a nonconference Power Four-caliber opponent until a trip to South Bend to face Notre Dame in 2030. This will be IU's first nonconference game away from Memorial Stadium since a loss to Louisville at Lucas Oil Stadium in 2023.
Indiana has scheduled FCS opponents for their nonconference games in each of the next six seasons. While they have never played Howard, the game against Indiana State in 2030 will be their fourth matchup in eight seasons.
Dolson has stated that the team's scheduling strategy is aimed at putting them in the best position for success at the end of the season and creating meaningful games in the Big Ten, as they are "really playing for postseason opportunities."
