Rajamahendravaram is preparing to host the International Dragon Boat League (IDBL) 2026, marking a significant step in its emergence as a global water sports destination. The event is scheduled to commence on May 30 and will span three days along the Godavari River.
This water sport extravaganza is being organized by the Andhra Pradesh government in partnership with 'Think Outside' and the Indian Kayaking & Canoeing Association (IKCA). It is being presented as a Khelo India initiative.
Plans are in place to invite 25 countries, anticipating around 1,000 athletes to participate. Competitions will be held in three categories: Dragon boat race, Kayaking, and Canoeing, with events for men, women, and mixed teams. The IDBL aims to celebrate Rajamahendravaram's cultural richness and its connection to the Godavari River under the slogan 'IDBL-2026; Where Tradition Meets Sport.'
Twelve countries have already confirmed their participation in the upcoming event. This initiative also aligns with the campaign for the Godavari Pushkarams-2027, further enhancing the region's profile.
