Injury Couldn't Stop This Rochester Athlete's Passion for Baseball

In July 2025, 21-year-old Alex Miller, a 2022 graduate of Rochester Mayo High School, is preparing to embark on his Division I baseball journey at Morehead State University in Kentucky. This remarkable achievement comes after Miller overcame a series of setbacks during his high school athletic career.

Miller, who comes from an athletically gifted family, never had the chance to fully showcase his talents in high school. His sophomore year was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, while his junior year saw him sidelined by a concussion and a mystery illness. The biggest challenge, however, came in his senior year when he tore his ACL early in the basketball season, forcing him to miss the entire baseball season.

Rather than letting the injury defeat him, Miller adopted a positive mindset, determined to make the most of his situation. He spent the next two years at Florence Darlington Technical College in South Carolina, where he honed his pitching skills and developed lifelong friendships with his teammates. This summer, Miller has been the pitching ace for the Rochester Royals amateur baseball team, showcasing his 95 mph fastball and impressive slider.

Now, as Miller prepares to join Morehead State, he is eager to make an immediate impact on the team and spread his infectious enthusiasm for the game. With his unwavering determination and positive outlook, this Rochester athlete is poised to inspire others and leave a lasting mark on the Division I baseball landscape.
