Injured Wicketkeeper Pant Aims to Rejoin Indian Test Squad

As of October 8th, 2025, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is nearing a return to cricket after being sidelined due to a foot injury sustained during India's tour of England last year. Pant is currently in the final stages of his rehabilitation and is undergoing fitness assessments at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

If cleared, Pant could feature for the Delhi team in the second round of the Ranji Trophy, which is set to begin on October 25th. This would mark the start of Pant's journey back to the Indian Test team, as he aims to regain his spot for the two-match series against South Africa in November.

Pant had a standout performance during the England tour, scoring 479 runs in four matches with two centuries and three fifties. His impressive display has raised expectations for his return to the national side. In his absence, India has been using Dhruv Jurel as the first-choice wicketkeeper, with N Jagadeesan as the backup.

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has indicated that Pant's participation in the Ranji Trophy opener against Hyderabad on October 15th remains "slightly doubtful," but the team is hopeful that he will be available for the subsequent matches as he continues to make progress in his recovery.
