Indiana Fever Dealt Another Blow as Key Player Sidelined for Season
19 Aug
Summary
- Guard Sophie Cunningham to miss rest of season with knee injury
- Fever have experienced three season-ending injuries in August
- Team still hoping two-time All-Star Caitlin Clark returns before season finale

The Indiana Fever's injury woes have continued to mount, as the team announced on Tuesday that guard Sophie Cunningham will miss the remainder of the 2025 season due to a knee injury. Cunningham was hurt during the Fever's victory over the Connecticut Sun last Sunday.
This latest setback comes on the heels of two other season-ending injuries the Fever have experienced in August. Guard Sydney Colson tore the ACL in her left knee on August 7th, while guard Aari McDonald broke a bone in her right foot in the same game. Additionally, two-time All-Star Caitlin Clark has still not played since injuring her right groin in mid-July, though the team is hopeful she will return before the regular-season finale on September 9th against the Minnesota Lynx.
Despite the rash of injuries, the outspoken Cunningham had been playing a key role in helping the Fever stay in the playoff mix. Prior to her injury, she was averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. To help fill the void, the Fever have signed veteran guard Shey Peddy to a seven-day hardship contract.
