On September 25, 2025, No. 11 Indiana narrowly defeated Iowa 20-15 in a hard-fought Big Ten matchup. The Hoosiers, who came into the game ranked second nationally in total offense and scoring, were held to just 337 yards and their lowest scoring output of the season.
However, Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza made the play of the game with 1:28 remaining. Facing a 13-13 tie, Mendoza connected with wide receiver Elijah Sarratt on a 49-yard touchdown pass. Sarratt broke a tackle attempt by Iowa's Deshaun Lee to reach the end zone and give the Hoosiers the lead.
Iowa had a chance to tie the game in the final minutes, but kicker Drew Stevens missed a 42-yard field goal attempt. After Indiana's defense held firm on Iowa's final possession, Mendoza ran out the clock by sprinting into the end zone, where he was tackled for a safety.
Earlier in the game, Indiana had taken an early 7-0 lead after an interception by Amare Ferrell set up a 14-yard touchdown pass from Mendoza to Omar Cooper Jr. Iowa responded with a field goal and a 3-yard touchdown run by Mark Gronowski to take a 10-7 lead. The Hoosiers tied it at 10-10 just before halftime on a 46-yard field goal by Nico Radicic.
