Mott Heir Aims for Derby Glory with Incredibolt
29 Jan
Summary
- Riley Mott follows his father's path toward Kentucky Derby victory.
- Incredibolt prepares for crucial Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
- Trainer's son has previously guided Incredibolt to stakes success.

Riley Mott is charting his own course in Thoroughbred racing, inspired by his father, Hall of Famer Bill Mott, and is now aiming for the prestigious Kentucky Derby winner's circle with Incredibolt. This Saturday at Gulfstream Park, Mott will saddle Incredibolt for the $275,000 Holy Bull (G3), a pivotal race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.
The Holy Bull, a 1 1/16-mile test, is a key prep for the Florida Derby (G1) on March 28. Mott already experienced success at Churchill Downs when Incredibolt won the Street Sense (G3) in October, mirroring a victory his father achieved the previous year. This performance confirmed the colt's ability over two turns.
Incredibolt, trained by Mott, has been training well at Palm Meadows, Gulfstream's satellite facility. Jockey Jaime Torres will again partner with the colt from the rail post position. The Holy Bull features a competitive field, including Todd Pletcher-trained Nearly, the morning-line favorite, and Saffie Joseph Jr.'s undefeated Bravaro.
Other notable contenders in the Holy Bull Stakes include Brad Cox trainee Cannoneer, who makes his 2026 debut, and Dale Romans' Project Ace, who has shown strong form in recent starts at 1 1/16 miles. The field is rounded out by Roger That Dana and Global Aviator.
