6 Dec, 2025
Summary
- Houston returns after a 10-day layoff to face Florida State.
- Freshmen Flemings and Cenac Jr. are stepping up for Houston.
- Florida State has suffered two recent blowout losses.
The eighth-ranked Houston Cougars are returning to action this Saturday after a 10-day layoff, facing a struggling Florida State team in the Houston Hoops Showdown. This neutral-site game is effectively a home game for Houston, who boasts a 7-1 record. The team has relied on freshmen Kingston Flemings and Chris Cenac Jr. to fill the void left by key scorers from last season.
Florida State, now 5-3, has endured consecutive blowout losses, prompting first-year coach Luke Loucks to express deep disappointment and consider lineup changes. Their defense has faltered, allowing opponents to shoot at high percentages, a stark contrast to Houston's strong defensive metrics.
Houston coach Kelvin Sampson has used the break to focus on offensive execution and fundamental practice. The Cougars' solid defense, ranking third nationally in scoring defense, will likely pose a significant challenge for Florida State's struggling offense as they seek to rediscover their early-season success.
