Hope Gordon's Historic Para-Powerlifting Debut at Games

Hope Gordon, 31, recently realized a lifelong dream by competing in the Commonwealth Games, a moment of profound significance as the venue was located near Yorkhill Children's Hospital. This location held deep personal meaning, marking ten years since her left leg was amputated after extensive treatment.

Gordon not only competed but also made history, becoming the first female Para-powerlifter to represent Scotland at the Games. Her ninth-place finish in the heavyweight category at the SEC Armadillo capped off a remarkable period.

Her preparation was intense, including winning two gold medals at the Paracanoe World Cup in Montreal, Canada, just ten days before the Games. She also overcame food poisoning to compete.

Looking ahead, Gordon's focus shifts back to Paracanoeing for the World Championships in Poland next month. She previously achieved another historic feat as Great Britain's first female para Nordic skier.
