Uli Hoeneß has issued a strong plea for the media to cease using him and other players as a means to criticize the national team manager. This statement comes amidst significant speculation regarding the potential return of veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to the DFB squad for the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, scheduled from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
While reports suggest that an agreement for Neuer's comeback is already in place, national team manager Julian Nagelsmann provided a non-committal response when questioned on the matter. Nagelsmann stated that currently, only rumors are circulating and that the situation will unfold as it may. Hoeneß declined to comment directly on the coach's communication strategy regarding the goalkeeper situation, emphasizing his preference for direct discussion and asking that indirect criticism of the coach be avoided.
